UN Security Council must renew the arms embargo on South Sudan
27/5/2025: A full UN arms embargo on South Sudan has been in force since 2018 but now there is a push from African members of the Security Council to lift it. Amnesty International says this would be a mistake as violence has recently come back to plague the country.

26/5/2025: International human rights organisations have sent an open letter to ministers of the European Union to protest against Hungary's blatant defiance of human rights and the rule of law. The crackdown on civil society organisations and independent media has intensified and the Israeli Prime Minister was welcomed despite being subject to an ICC arrest warrant.

New pandemic treaty is a landmark, but flawed
23/5/2025: World Health Organization member countries have adopted a new treaty to improve international coordination and cooperation on the response to future pandemics. The agreement has the potential to reduce rising global health inequalities but it still falls far short of addressing the human rights violations that occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Guterres calls on Israel to accept UN’s plan for Gaza

Acute food insecurity and malnutrition rise for sixth consecutive year
