Thousands of Afghans return under adverse circumstances from Pakistan
12/9/2025: As Pakistan resumes implementation of its “Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan,” nearly 100,000 Afghans crossed back from Pakistan in the first week of September alone. Many are arriving in areas where local communities are struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake.

Uganda welcomes refugees despite diminishing funds
9/9/2025: Since the start of 2025, an average of 600 people, mostly from Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been arriving in Uganda each day. The East African country currently hosts nearly 2 million refugees, over half of them children. Resources are stretched with crowded schools, inadequate shelter, and limited access to food and health care.

UN calls for support to end displacement for millions of Syrians
2/9/2025: Around 850,000 Syrians have returned home from neighbouring countries since the fall of the Assad government in December. Many more have expressed their intention to return in the coming months and continued support will be needed.

Nearly 2 million refugees at risk as Uganda’s resources dwindle
4/8/2025: Uganda is on the verge of hosting two million refugees as escalating crises in Sudan, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) drive people to cross the border. Uganda is already Africa’s largest refugee-hosting country and the third largest globally.

Sharp increase of Afghan returns in adverse circumstances from Iran
28/6/2025: The UN Refugee Agency reports that over 640,000 Afghans have returned from Iran since the implementation of a deadline by the government on 20 March. The Agency warns that returns on such a scale have the potential to destabilise the fragile situation in Afghanistan.

UN Refugee Agency estimates 2.5 million people need resettlement
24/6/2025: For 2026, the international community has set itself a goal to resettle 120,000 refugees, a small fraction of the 2.5 million refugees worldwide that need to be resettled. The largest groups are Afghans and Syrians.

States across the Americas must uphold the right to seek asylum
20/6/2025: Amnesty International calls on states in the Americas to immediately restore access to asylum, reverse discriminatory policies and uphold their obligations under international law. In particular, the US has escalated mass immigration raids, detaining and separating families, with no due process guarantees.
