The UN Secretary-General has paid tribute to the 150 victims of the 2009 stadium massacre in Conakry. Guinea’s former military ruler, Moussa Dadis Camara, is in the dock, along with ten other officials, as proceedings of the International Criminal Court commence.

UN report warns of crimes against humanity in Ethiopia

Uganda pays first $65m to DRC as war reparations
12/9/2022: Uganda has implemented a ruling made earlier this year by the International Court of Justice. The Court ordered the country to pay $325 million to DR Congo for loss of lives, looting and property damage during the invasion by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces more than 20 years ago.

Tigray forces open to African Union peace talks

Ukraine war undermined UN nuclear weapons conference
31/8/2022: The Swiss participant of the recent conference review of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons offers an account of its failure. Of the 191 states parties, 190 were in favour of the necessary compromise, a clear sign that Russia was the stumbling block.

UN nuclear weapons talks fail over Russian objection
27/8/2022: A UN conference lasting around a month has failed in efforts to update the 50-year-old Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Russia objected to the final draft document, apparently over references to the trouble at Europe's biggest nuclear plant at Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.

UN reports crimes against humanity in Myanmar
9/8/2022: Rape and other forms of sexual violence, and crimes against children, have been perpetrated by Myanmar security forces and armed groups, according to a new UN report. Evidence is being shared with the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court.

Iran nuclear talks end as EU submits ‘final text’
8/8/2022: Diplomats involved in the negotiations in Vienna to revive the Iran nuclear deal have returned to their capitals with a draft for a new agreement. Iran has massively expanded its nuclear activities since the pact collapsed in 2018 following Washington's decision to pull out.
